QUESTION NO. 2320
INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER NO 29
DATE OF PUBLICATION: 20 November 2009
Mr G R Krumbock (DA) to ask the Minister of Tourism:
Whether there are any plans in place to encourage and educate local
accommodation service providers to charge reasonable prices during 2010 to
maintain our value-for-money credentials and therefore reserve our tourism
potential and legacy into the future; if not, why not; if so, what are the
relevant details?
NW3031E
2320. THE MINISTER OF TOURISM ANSWERS:
This will be done by the Tourism Business Council of South Africa. Since
the industry is not government regulated, our focus will be on educating
the industry about the importance of being responsible so that we do not
endanger future tourism growth. 2010 is an opportunity for us to market
South Africa and position it as a destination of choice. It will be
detrimental to the future growth of the industry to overcharge as we are a
value for money destination.
