Ms E More (DA) to ask the Minister of Health:
(1) Whether the R900 million allocated to the antiretroviral (ARV)
programme in the Medium-term Budget Policy Statement was the initial
amount requested from National Treasury; if not, (a) what was the
amount and (b) from what sources will the additional amount be
obtained; if so,
(2) whether any conditions have been placed on the funding; if so, what
conditions;
(3) (a) what amount was allocated to each province and (b) how many
additional persons will be accommodated on the ARV programme;
(4) whether all persons on waiting lists for ARVs will be receiving their
treatment before the end of the 2009-10 financial year; if not, (a)
why not and (b) what is the expected length of the waiting lists for
each province as at the end of the financial year?

REPLY:
(1) No.
(a) The initial amount requested was R1,2 billion.
(b) From PEPFAR.
(2) Yes, the funds would be used only for the Antiretroviral Therapy
(ART) programme.
(3) (a) and (b) The following table reflects the situation in this
