Mr J Selfe to ask the Minister of Correctional Services:
(1) Whether the new correctional centre in Kimberley has been
commissioned; if not, (a) why not and (b) when is it expected to be
commissioned; if so, when;
(2) whether (a) computers, (b) IT cabling and (c) telephones have been
fully installed; if not, (i) why not, (ii) which companies are involved
and (iii) when were the contracts for the installation awarded; if so,
what are the relevant details? NW30E
REPLY
1. Yes, the new Correctional Centre was commissioned with effect from 02
December 2009.
(2) (a),( b) &(c)
A phased-implementation plan has been adopted in the commissioning of the
Centre. Cabling is completed, computers and telephone systems installed in
areas which are operational.
(2) (ii) The companies involved are:
⢠Telkom, for the provision of connectivity to the site
⢠Sizwe and Dimension Data respectively for the IT cabling and routers,
switches and digital media system. The two have been contracted
through SITA procurement process.
(iii) The cabling contract was awarded to Sizwe in February 2009 at a cost
of R5 million. The rest of the technology installation including the
digital media and telephonical system was awarded in November 2009 to
Dimension Data for R25 million. Telkom was awarded a contract in January
2010 for the provision of connectivity to the site at a monthly fee of
R2,900.00
