Mr M W Rabotapi (DA) to ask the Minister of Sport and Recreation:
(1)
(a) What agreement has been made with the Local Organising Committee (LOC)
of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Soccer tournament to establish
(i) A fan website for the event and
(ii) Fan embassies in the match cities?
(b) When did the LOC first approach his department to establish these
entities?
(c) How will these entities be financed?
(d) From which budget and
(e) What plans are in place or are being made to ensure the people staffing
these embassies have the appropriate
(i) Foreign language skills?
(ii) Football knowledge and
(iii) Event-support knowledge?
(2) Whether specific accommodation will need to be rented for them? If
not;
(a) Why not and
(b) Where in the host cities will these embassies be housed? If so;
What are the relevant details?

REPLY:
(1) (a) (i) No arrangements are in place to establish a dedicated LOC fan
website. However, various websites address information requirements in
relation to 2010 preparations and the general state of readiness. These
include the www.srsa.gov.za; www.sa2010.gov.za; www.findyourway2010.co.za;
www.tourism.gov.za; www.tourismgrading.co.za; www.fifa.com.
(ii) No such agreement is in place.
(b) No approach was made to Sport and Recreation South Africa by the Local
Organising Committee in this regard.
