| | | | | |surface area is affected by | |
| | | | | |the mining; | |

| | | | | |2.2 During the years 1999 | |
| | | | | |and 2000, an Environmental | |
| | | | | |Impact Assessment was | |
| | | | | |conducted to determine the | |
| | | | | |effect of the mining | |
| | | | | |activities and the results | |
| | | | | |were that: | |
| | | | | | | |
| | | | | |2.2.1 The community at the | |
| | | | | |village is as a result of | |
| | | | | |the mining activities | |
| | | | | |constantly exposed to | |
| | | | | |unacceptable levels of noise| |
| | | | | |pollution and air pollution;| |

| | | | | |2.2.2 The destruction of | |
| | | | | |the topography soils, | |
| | | | | |vegetation and animal life | |
| | | | | |on the farm is severe and it| |
| | | | | |will take a long time for | |
| | | | | |the biophysical features of | |
| | | | | |the land to be | |
| | | | | |rehabilitated; | |

| | | | | |2.2.3 Incidents of | |
| | | | | |drowning, blasting within | |
| | | | | |100 meters from the village,| |
| | | | | |fly-rocks and subsequent | |
| | | | | |damage to property is | |
| | | | | |reported regularly; | |

| | | | | |2.2.4 There is no documented| |
