2332. Mrs A Steyn (DA) to ask the Minister of Rural Development and Land
Reform:
(1) Whether all provinces appointed mentors to assist emerging farmers;
if not, (a) why not and (b) what steps his department has taken in
this regard; if so, (i) how many in each province and (ii) what budget
was set aside for this in each province;
(2) whether his department has a programme in place to monitor and
evaluate the quality of the mentorship programme; if not, (a) why not
and (b) what steps is his department taking to rectify this; if so,
what are the relevant details?

THE MINISTER OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT AND LAND REFORM:
(1)(a)-(b)(i)-(ii) and (2)(a)-(b) The competency of providing
agricultural support services rests with both
the national and provincial Departments of
Agriculture who have a working relationship with
emerging farmers. They are also champions for
the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme
(CRDP), which seeks to promote local economic
development, including increased agricultural
production.
