NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
PARLIAMENTARY QUESTION NO 143
QUESTION
Ms E More (DA) to ask the Minister for Cooperative Governance and
Traditional Affairs:
What is the (a) optimal and (b) actual number of fire fighters at fire
stations at (i) Edenvale, (ii) Kempton Park, (iii) Tembisa and (iv) the OR
Tambo International Airport? NW149E
REPLY
Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has adopted the SANS 10090 Code of
Practice (Community Protection against Fire) as norms and standards for the
rendering of fire services to the community of Ekurhuleni. The standard
deals with staffing based on a risk assessment.
Below is the status as requested:
|Station |Optimal |Actual |Reserve Force |Total |
|Edenvale |36 |26 |12 |38 |
|Kempton Park |36 |26 |18 |54 |
|Tembisa |36 |26 |22 |58 |
It is important to note that the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Fire
Services is not responsible for the staff complement of OR Tambo Fire and
Rescue service and therefore could not respond to the question raised in
relation to OR Tambo. The OR Tambo airport provides fire services in terms
of the International Civil Aviation Organisation Regulations.
