The South African Military Health Service is responsible for the health and
wellness of the serving President and Deputy President as well as former
Presidents and Deputy Presidents and their dependents, as well as visiting
Heads of State and Government visiting the RSA.
It is the responsibility of the Presidential Medical Unit to render and
ensure the health support at all times.
Health support provides for day to day health support, as well as close
support to the President and Deputy President within and outside the RSA.
The nature of the tasks performed by the PMU is as such that its
strength/personnel can vary from time to time depending on the prevailing
needs; and it will therefore have a permanent component as well as elements
that are activated if and when necessary.
