QUESTION NO 412
DATE OF PUBLICATION IN INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER: 15 MARCH 2013
(INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER NO 8-2013)
Date reply submitted: 15 April 2013
412. Ms D Kohler-Barnard (DA) to ask the Minister of Police:
(a) On what date was the current moratorium on the taking on of new
reservists initiated and (b) when will it be lifted?
NW560E
REPLY:
a) A second moratorium on the taking of new reservists was not initiated.
A moratorium on the recruitment of reservists was only in place from 1
April 2009 until 10 December 2009 when it was uplifted by the Minister
of Police. However, since the upliftment of the moratorium the South
African Police Service has not enlisted new reservists pending the
review of the reservist system. The review of the reservist system has
since been finalised and the Minister of Police has approved the
Reservist Policy Framework.
b) The South African Police Service is in the process of implementation of
the revised reservist system and it is envisaged that structured
provincial recruitment drives for reservists will commence in due
course.
