QUESTIONS FOR WRITTEN REPLY
Mr S Z Ntapane (UDM) to ask the Minister of Labour:
1) (a) How many positions for the post of labour inspector are there
in the Gauteng North region and (b) how many of these positions are
vacant;
2) How may persons are employed within the Gauteng North region which
fall under the ambit of his departmentâs Labour inspectors;
3) What was the expenditure of the Gauteng North region in the past
year for which information is available on vehicles for labour
inspectors in terms of (a) rental, (b) fuel, and (c) maintenance?

REPLY TO QUESTION 1493:
The Minister of Labour replied:
1. (a) There are 73 positions of Labour Inspectors in the Gauteng North
region and 15 Team Leaders.
(b) As for the 17th June 2010, there were 8 vacant Inspector posts and
a process is underway to have them filled.
2. According to Statistic South Africa Quarter 1 report (i.e.
January â March 2010), the total number of the Economic Active
Population in the Gauteng Region was 5 081 000 out of which 3 703 000
are employed.
3. The expenditure of the Gauteng North region for the past year on
vehicles for Labour inspectors can be translated as follows:
(a) For rental = R 3,601,494.82
(b) For fuel = R 566,398.52 and;
(c) For maintenance = R 175, 400.04
