Deputy Speaker, I would like to respond to one or two of the statements that have been made by hon members, in particular the statements with respect to higher education in the Eastern Cape and the need to provide support to Walter Sisulu University.
I know that Minister Nzimande is going to be investing fairly substantially in the development of the poorer and less developed institutions of higher learning in our country; and Walter Sisulu University is going to be one of the beneficiaries of the investment, both in teaching and learning facilities, as well as accommodation for young students.
It was the ANC that began to invest in historically disadvantaged institutions in our country, and I hope that the initiatives of Minister Nzimande will enhance the learning opportunities for young people in our country.
With regard to the ANC member, who referred to the door-to-door visits in the Western Cape, I really regretted not having gumboots when I was walking about in Khayelitsha, because the housing conditions are absolutely disgraceful. [Interjections.]
The people in that community are wallowing in water, in this so-called world-class city. There isn't world-class accommodation in Khayelitsha and New Crossroads. [Interjections.] And we should not boast about world class until all the facilities for all the people of the provinces in which we live are of an equivalent status. [Applause.]
