Xipikara [Speaker], illegal drugs are killing and maiming communities. They halt the development of children and the youth and rob them of their optimal growth. They are the cause of a wide variety of crime, extending even to horrible crimes such as murder. The Premier of Gauteng, hon Nomvula Mokonyane, together with her executive members, Members of Parliament, religious leaders, workers and community members, carried out a mass campaign in Eldorado Park and Kliptown to fight the scourge of drugs.
They moved from street to street, flat to flat and church to mosque, mobilising community members to fight crime and drug peddlers.

[The ANC applauds the community of Eldorado Park and Kliptown on their fight against crime. Those who are selling drugs should know that when they are caught they will be crushed and defeated. [Applause.]]
