As a result of this, African countries have committed themselves to improve their participation in the current 2010 census round. To translate this commitment into effect, countries organised a series of country-led African Symposia on Statistical Development, whose main theme was the population census. So far from 2006, six symposia have been organised successively in South Africa, Rwanda, Angola, Ghana, Senegal and Egypt.
