Speaker, I rise on the statement made by the hon Lekota, the Commission of Inquiry into the Strategic Arms Procurement Packages was established by the President of the Republic in terms of the Commissions Act. It is headed by an appeal judge of the Supreme Court of Appeal and it has its members like the judge president and judge of the high court. The commission has received all support that is prescribed by the Commissions Act.
We find it shocking that the hon Lekota will stand here and make a call that undermines the independence of the commission and casts suspicion on senior judges of our country. Whilst we appreciate that the hon Lekota is still excited by the need for speed that he encountered during the august race, we would appeal to him to please respect the integrity and the independence of the commission and to allow it to do its work in terms of the Constitution and the law. [Interjections.] [Applause.]
