Speaker, over the past few weeks, there has been reports that a large proportion of meat products on the South African market have not been labelled correctly. A study conducted by the University of Stellenbosch found that soya, donkey, goat and water buffalo meat were some of the ingredients found in the meat tested.
According to this report, they were not declared on the packaging label. The UDM condemns this unscrupulous behaviour in the strongest possible terms and calls on the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to address the shortage of abattoir inspectors, in order to guarantee the safety of meat for South African consumers. Thank you, hon Speaker.
