4.5 Progress on the implementation plan The Head of Department reported that a meeting was held on 10 October 2012 during which a presentation was made to the MEC who afterwards approved the project plan and implementation of the court order. The service provider was appointed to assist with the demolition and removal of rubble once the demolition had been completed. The provincial department engaged the services of the South African Police Service and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department to assist with the security and public order policing during the demolition of the illegal structures. In October 2012, notices of eviction were issued to occupants of the stands in Lenasia, who were given seven days to respond to the provincial department if they had any compelling reasons to put forward against the evictions.
