With regards to household food security, 3.2 million households were deemed to be food insecure in 2011. The Council indicated that rapid food price inflation was a real threat to food security. Food distribution was regarded as the main challenge to ensuring food security rather than food production. Hence food distribution should be the main area of focus for policy development. The Committee is concerned at the high number of food insecure households in the country which constituted 21.5 per cent of total households in 2011. The Committee noted the importance of food distribution in increasing the number of food secure households.
