Mr Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House -
1) notes that the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is observed each year on 25 November 2012;
2) further notes that this date also marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism that will lead up to UN's Human Rights Day on 10 December;
3) recognises that the day raises public awareness of violence against women in all countries around the world and at all levels of society;
4) acknowledges that women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence, and the scale and true nature of the issue is often hidden;
5) further acknowledges that this year the IPU encourages all parliaments to organise a special event under the theme "Eliminating discrimination against women in order to end gender- based violence"; and
6) calls on all individuals, organisations and institutions to unite to put an end to violence against women.
Agreed to.
