Speaker, whatever you may hear on unemployment today, whatever the Minister and the ANC may proclaim, whatever promises they may make, there is one person who will never believe them and who will never trust them again. His name is Jan Itumeleng Chauke, born on 18 July 1981 in Brits, North West. He completed his matric with a distinction in 2002. Since then he has been looking for a job to help him to save for further education and to help him realise his own dreams of freedom and transformation.
He recalled seeing posts advertised in Madibeng Municipality. He applied. He was shortlisted and was later called in, but he did not have an ANC membership card and, in his words, "I could not get the job." Since then, he has not had any opportunity from anywhere to help him get on the ladder. Unemployment, he says, has ruined his life.
Only bold policies of job creation will convince him that South Africa is serious about tackling this scourge. I thank you.
