Addressing nutritional needs during the first 1 000 days of a child's life, including the 270 days of a woman's pregnancy and 365 days in the first two years of an infant's life, is imperative if we are to reap the benefits of good health and development for our children. Nutritional support programmes, in addition to ARV interventions, remain vital. This approach has contributed to the successful reduction in mother-to-child transmission of HIV by 50%.
