The mandate of the Department of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, herein after referred to as the Department was derived from Section 85 (2) (c) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa which states that the President exercises executive authority, together with the other members of the Cabinet, by coordinating the functions of State departments and administrations. The Department was promulgated in January 2010 in line with Section 85(2) (c) of the Constitution. As from 01 April 2011, the Department was assigned Vote 6 after being removed from Vote 1 (The Presidency).
