In his 2012 State-of-the-Nation Address, President Zuma identified transport as a catalyst for the country's socio-economic development. In this regard, developing and integrating rail and road transport, expanding rail transport, improving the movement of goods and economic integration through a Durban-Free State-Gauteng logistics and industrial corridor, upgrading ten priority roads in the North West, expanding the iron-ore rail between Sishen in Northern Cape and Saldanha Bay in the Western Cape and championing the North-South Rail Corridor were provided as niches for the attainment of this objective.
