10. Cuba's gross domestic product (GDP) dropped by about 35 per cent in the early 1990s after the fall and disintegration of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR). This ushered in a period of severe hardship and economic difficulty and compelled the Cuban government to introduce certain economic reforms over the past decade to address its changed economic reality.
