In the spirit of celebrating International Women's Day, it is imperative that we acknowledge and recognise the enormous progress that the country has made in the struggle for women's rights and the achievement of gender equality. In South Africa, the principles of gender equality and nonsexism are enshrined in the country's Constitution and therefore state institutions are legally required to put in place enforcement mechanisms. If the Constitution is saying that, what about political policies that do not comply? They cannot comply if we do not have women who hold ... ithi le nto ngesintu, ukubamba imela ngobukhali bayo.[... in an African language, this says women out there must fight for their rights.]
