3. Backlog courts, run from lower courts, have been set up and cases older than two years are being prioritised. SAPS reported that while 95% of their cases were court-ready, magistrates often remanded cases indefinitely on request of prosecutors. Much of the backlog could be avoided if such requests were only granted where absolutely necessary.
