A large number of the detectives are very experienced detectives with over 15 years of experience. In fact, it seems as if there is a risk of an aging detective population at the station which may require an injection of younger detectives to ensure continuity. Of the 135 detectives, 40 still need to complete the basic two week detective course and 79 still needed to complete the three month course. Only 48 are fully trained and have completed the Detective Learning Programme. With an estimate of eight training opportunities for the detectives per year it would take five years to train all 40 detectives in the basic detective course.
