The detectives have 22 vehicles to share amongst themselves but five of these were at the garage on the date of the visit. Eight of the vehicles had over 200 000 km on their clocks. According to the RAG, the detectives are meant to have 45 vehicles. Detectives complained that the severe shortage of vehicles hampered their ability to do their work and that at times they needed to work overtime so that they could actually obtain a vehicle to get where they needed to get to. They also complained that Commanders were not letting detectives use their vehicles (especially those under command of another Commander) even when they were not using these vehicles. The Province promised during the visit that the detectives would receive a total of 18 new vehicles during the current financial year.
