The Venezuelan national telecommunication company is the main telecommunication company in Venezuela. Compania Anonima Nacional Telefonos de Venezuela (Cantv) was incorporated in 1930 as a private company and operated under a service concession. The Venezuelan government managed to purchase the majority of Cantv's shares, thus returning it to state hands. After decades of state ownership, in 1991 Venworld Telecom, a private consortium, purchased a 40% controlling interest in Cantv.
