The company is owned by the State of Sao Paulo with a majority share ownership of 50.3% and the private sector accounting for about 49.7% of share ownership. Minority shareholders by nationality include the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, Ireland, Holland, etc. State law requires that in any private-public partnership the state must own 50 + 1% voting shares. The company's shares are traded on both the Sao Paulo and New York Stock Exchanges.
