. There was a high rate of withdrawals of cases with regards to rape of young girls due to family pressure. In addition, there was insufficient evidence attributed to girls that were raped who washed themselves before forensic evidence could be obtained. . Late reporting of rape was common in the area e.g. the family would request monetary compensation from the perpetrator who was often a family member or someone known so as not to report the matter but when money was not forthcoming, the incident would be reported to the police. The same applied to assault charges in terms of domestic violence. . There was also a need for more social workers in the Centre.
