The President is also misapplying the resources of our nation. Today, The Presidency is larger and more expensive than it has ever been. Three years ago, the administration cost R200 million. Today, that cost has risen to R318,9 million. Three years ago, the salary of the President was R1,3 million. Today, it is R2,4 million. [Interjections.] With more formal advisers in his office than under any other President, one wonders why the expenditure on consultants has risen from R19,6 million in 2007-08 to R36,3 million. [Interjections.] These consultants, who are appointed by The Presidency on five-year contracts, are free to carry out business deals with government.
Even though the hon President Zuma is the most-advised President in the history since the advent of our democracy, his capacity and willingness to defend the Constitution is the weakest of any incumbent so far.
