Chairperson, on behalf of the ANC I hereby move without notice:
That the Council -
1) notes that the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize, on Sunday, 5 June 2011 started a clean and green communities campaign that will see over a million trees planted in the KwaZulu-Natal province in the next five years;
2) further notes that the KwaZulu-Natal Integrated Green Communities Programme, which is spearheaded by the provincial government, the Wildlands Conservation Trust and Business South Africa, would include growing and planting trees, collecting and recycling, and that between 1 April and 20 May this initiative already created 126 full-time jobs, 164 "tree-preneurs" traded over 50 000 trees and 145 "waste-preneurs" collected and traded 61 000 kg of recycling; and
3) applauds this innovative effort which seeks to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time, which are unemployment, poverty and environmental sustainability.
Motion agreed to in accordance with section 65 of the Constitution.
