Approximately 80% of the male patient population presented with substance- induced psychosis. A substance-induced psychotic disorder, by definition, is directly caused by the effects of drugs or alcohol, medication and toxins. Psychotic symptoms can result from intoxication on alcohol, amphetamines (TIK), cocaine and other drugs including cannabis. Currently patients use older drugs. While effective, they have in some cases caused negative side effects in patients. The Evuxakeni Hospital psychiatrist indicated that new medication had proven more effective in private patients who have been treated with it.
