The President of the country has repeatedly said that all legislative fisheries functions - 100% - including the Integrated Coastal Management Act, must be transferred to the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Sadly, there remain certain officials who continue to undermine this process, which results in duplication, undue cost and, worse, negates tremendously against the available opportunity to create a large number of new and much-needed employment opportunities, particularly within rural fishing communities along our 3 000 km coastline.
