The Minister mentioned that the appointment of the Director-General of the DPE was a difficult process. The suitable candidate had to be a person who was multi-skilled, with expert knowledge of energy, transport, aviation, arms manufacturing, forestry and mining. The DPE needed to find someone with those skills. The position also required the person to be well versed in contracts, financial analysis and procurement. The salary on offer was not sufficient to attract the calibre of person needed for the job. However, a candidate had been identified and was being considered by Cabinet.
