In regard to road repairs and the massive increase reflected in the financial statement, Mr Dames said there was a move to a shadow toll. Road repairs were essential to ensure security of supply to power stations. The road repairs in Mpumalanga, which were of critical necessity due to the bad state of roads, were in excess of R10 billion. The expectation was that the South African National Road Agency Limited (SANRAL) would take over the repairs of roads as Eskom was not a road building company.
