Human rights education is much more than a lesson in schools or a theme for a day; it is a process to equip people with the tools they need to live lives of security and dignity. This should happen not only in the metropolitan cities of Johannesburg or Cape Town, but also in the deep rural villages in the Eastern Cape and Limpopo. It is only once every person - every woman and child - in these villages knows their rights, is informed on how to access them and is empowered to seek remedies, that we can say that we have achieved a society where human rights prevail. [Applause.]
