Chairperson, I hereby move without notice:
That the Council -
1) notes that disgruntled residents of Magabheni went on a rampage on Monday and set on fire the house of a man suspected of selling the deadly drug whoonga;
2) further notes that the deadly blend of detergent powder, rat poison and crushed antiretroviral drugs that are distributed free to HIV patients is commonly used in many townships, particularly in and around Durban, and has been linked to violent crimes among young people;
3) takes this opportunity to call on the police to wage war against the selfish individuals who peddle these deadly drugs and those who steal antiretroviral medications, including the public servants who work in government institutions such as clinics and hospitals; and
4) calls on communities to work with the people to ensure that these drug peddlers are brought to face the full might of the law.
Motion agreed to in accordance with section 65 of the Constitution.
