Hon Chairperson, I hereby move without notice on behalf of the Democratic Alliance:
That the Council -
1) notes with utter dismay that the Minister for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, on the television programme Fokus on Sunday evening, 13 February 2011, cited the Kou-Kamma Municipality in the Eastern Cape and the Naledi Municipality in the Free State as shining examples of the great successes of the government's turnaround strategy;
2) further notes that in contrast to this statement, both these municipalities are, despite a prolonged intervention and a dissolution of council respectively, now in an even worse state of mismanagement where services have come to a total standstill and raw sewage is running down the streets;
3) takes issue with the Minister for conveying such blatant inaccuracies to the viewers of South Africa, and therefore to the voters of South Africa, on the eve of the national local government elections; and
4) debates this matter at the earliest possible sitting of the Council.
[Interjections.]
