Members checked the register for the store. A number of issues were apparent. Firstly, it was clear that there were inaccuracies in record- keeping. The total figures in some cases for products signed out of the store did not correlate with the individual sign outs. Where changes were made to the register, these were not accompanied by signatures. In some months, no cleaning materials were signed out. While there was place on the register for steel wool and window cleaner, no purchase of these products for this year was apparent. In addition, it was unclear to the Members why most of the supplies signed out did not go to the trainees for use in the barracks, but were in fact for use by the groundsmen (a company called Democratic Cleaners) that are contracted out by the Department. On inspection of the stationery store, it was unclear to Members why some stationery, such as paper, was kept in the general store and other stationery in a separate room. The stationery room also showed signs of neglect and disorder. Empty packages were strewn amongst full packages containing measuring tapes. Old dairies from 2008/09 and 2009/10 were piled up in the storeroom.
