The station did not have interviewing/meeting rooms to be used by detectives; neither did it have a secure suspect-identification facility. It was highlighted, however, that should the detectives need to use such a facility, arrangements would be made with the Richards Bay police station, which is about 40 kilometres away. There were 17 detectives, including the branch commander, but the desirable strength would be 26. The youngest detective was 27 years of age, while the oldest was 54, with the average age of 30 years across the branch. Ten of the detectives had successfully completed the full detectives training course, with five having completed specialised detective training courses in areas such as family violence, child protection and sexual offences (FCS), and murder and robbery. The station had no specialised units except for detectives who were dealing with FCS cases.
