The station had its own interviewing rooms, and the detectives were located on the station premises, except for the stock theft unit which was housed a few meters away from the station. The station had no suspect identification facilities. It was said that, for that purpose, arrangements were made with the Pietermaritzburg SAPS. The station had 28 detectives for general investigations, with 12 focusing on stock theft. The entire branch had a shortage of members, particularly the stock theft unit which, according to its head, needed 33 more detectives. It was reported that, due to the challenges facing the stock theft unit and its members, most police officials did not want to join that unit.
