The unions felt that there was an open-door policy with the station commander in that he was open to consultation whenever needed and feedback was always provided. However the challenge identified was around issues of promotion. In this regard, the police members were occupying the same positions for a number of years without promotion. A police member told the Committee that he had an Honours degree, but had been a sergeant for 10 years without promotion. In this regard staff felt that the station should rather revert back to the old way of promotion.
