According to the department, the challenges facing the province were thoroughly probed, at the North-West Economic Recovery Symposium which was held on 21 and 22 of January 2009. According to the department, the symposium was an opportune platform for all the PGDS Working Groups to reflect on the economic challenges and to develop a proposed Recovery Plan. Some of the resolutions at the symposium, include, inter alia: . Facilitating processes to review the Provincial Growth and Development Strategy (PGDS) as a matter of urgency; . Facilitating the integration of plans from all different public sector spheres and units responsible for development (National, Provincial, Local); . Restructuring and improving strategic relations with all the Municipalities, in order to achieve integrated economic development; and . Setting up an Integrated Task Team led by the Department of Economic Development & Tourism. . Convene an Economic Summit to review the PGDS and to endorse the Integrated Economic Development Recovery Plan.
