Issues raised by members of the public and business: . Small and medium business need assistance and guidance with regard to exporting their goods and services to neighbouring countries in order to expand on their business. . Very little assistance is provided or given by the municipalities, in relation to the procurement of land for business ventures. . Community members are not aware of the existence of some of the DFIs and ERBs, and of the services they can provide to potential and aspiring entrepreneurs. . Members of the public complained of poor service and a lack of customer care from some of the DFIs. In certain instances business plans are not even looked at and are being ignored. . Mentorship programmes should be prioritised by the DFIs, especially for the youth. . Youth skills had to be developed. . There are many problems and challenges relating to the funding applications of the DFIs, and all the "red tape" is a matter of concern. . The DFIs should not wait for aspiring and potential entrepreneurs to come to their offices, but efforts should be made to find these entrepreneurs, e.g. local craft makers. . DFIs should do more to assist small and medium businesses with the marketing of their products and services. . There must be better co-ordination and integration of activities between Seda, Khula and Samaf. . Training to run and manage a successful small and medium enterprise, must be prioritised by the DFIs. . Advocacy campaigns relating to funding for skills development from DFIs are lacking at community level. . The Competition Commission must investigate tender rigging at provincial and municipal level. . Members of the community highlighted the poor co-ordination amongst the different entities. . The criteria to access funding are difficult and too high, with the result that people are unable to access funding. . There is very little or no support for businesses in agriculture, tourism, mining and construction in the area. . There had to be better co-ordination between the three spheres of Government relating to the implementation of legislation and policies on economic development initiatives. . DFIs and ERBs must target the relevant "audiences" when developing their marketing drives. . There is very little or no monitoring and evaluation of the business after funding has been approved by the DFIs. . The quality of training is very important if SMMEs have to succeed. . Municipalities must do more with regard to local economic development in their area of jurisdiction.
