(1) A total of 222 (two hundred and twenty two) qualifying beneficiaries have been screened and are currently earmarked to be allocated into the completed units.
(2) The process of beneficiary verification as well as compilation of the list has been completed. The first audit and verification was concluded prior to the re-development and/or demolition phase of the project.
(a) All residents from the old hostel building were verified by the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements, the ward councillor as well as the Chairperson of the Hostel Residents Association in June 2014.
(b) The list of beneficiaries was then compiled from the information gathered as referred to above.
(3) The allocation of beneficiaries into units is scheduled to take place in November 2015, once the process of landscaping and completion of internal roads has been concluded. It was agreed with the residents from Block 12, 13, 14 and 15 that the allocation process to be followed will be applied by using the concept of “first out - first in” (the first beneficiary to be moved out will be the first to be re-allocated to a new unit).
(4) (a) The total amount budgeted for the redevelopment of the 222 units was R153 million; and
(b) the expenditure to date is R148 million.
(5) The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements is in the process of identifying the relevant managing agent for the administration of the properties Post allocation and transfer.
