Yes, indeed, there are a number of universities that pay attention to the efforts of combating poverty. They have come up with a number of very useful proposals, in particular with regard to the utilisation of the land.
I know that the University of the Witwatersrand and the University of Stellenbosch, among others, have come up with a number of very good innovative ways of treating very barren soil and utilising the limited supply of water for irrigation. They also recommended vegetables and plants that help to enhance the ecosystem. These methods have now been incorporated into the work done by the Ministry of Rural Development and Land Reform, trying to spread the method to communities that would otherwise not have access to such information and knowledge.
