. Transformation in the UFS should be a major priority of all stakeholders involved in the university and especially among the student population. . The Committee welcomes and supports the UFS's proposed plan to review its teaching model, as this is of critical importance in achieving the objective of increasing the institution's low throughput rate. The university should, in particular, consider pursuing new teaching and learning models that accommodate a larger and more diverse student population. . Appointments of black lecturers should be prioritised to strengthen support for first generation students and to reflect on the demographics of the university where the majority are black students. To this end, the Committee commends the initiative of the Vice Chancellor to recruit 25 promising young scholars for intensive training as part of a drive to ensure equitable access and progression in the academy for previously disenfranchised groups. . The language policy of the university needs to be reviewed as it is a critical element in the process of transformation.
