Transformation in higher education is guided by the Higher Education Act of 1997 and the Education White Paper 3 (A Programme for the Transformation of Higher Education 1997). The merger process of the institution took place in 2005 and was processed in good faith. The main challenge of the merger is the human factor adapting to the changes. Work in progress among the merger related tasks that have been achieved include the reconfiguration of faculties, finalisation of the university's vision, mission and values statement, harmonisation of staff salaries and conditions of service and other relevant issues pertaining to the merger process.
