. The current national average of 22% throughput rate cannot be a norm and should be improved to reflect the huge investment made by government in higher education. . There is a need for the institution to develop effective mechanisms to attract and retain black academic staff. . The department should improve the curriculum offered at FET colleges to enable students to transfer smoothly to higher education institutions. . The university should develop a database of all currently enrolled students, graduates and drop-outs. This will assist the university in its planning and will enable the institution to determine the number of financial needy students enrolled by the university in relation to its allocation from the NSFAS bursary scheme. . The perception of FET colleges as a last hope for students who do not meet the criteria of admission at universities should be transformed through sufficient investment in the FET sector.
